This unusual style of kyusu was completely handmade in Aichi prefecture, home of the historic Tokoname kilns. The muted olive green is accented by hand-drawn pin stripes, accentuating the tall sides of the pot. The clay is naturally unglazed and develops its green color inside the kiln as layers of ash melt to the teapot, called shizen-yuyaku. The pot is as pleasing to pour as it is to hold, filtering the tea through a handmade clay mesh screen. The lid fits snugly and doesn't leak, and the pour is so smooth it looks like pouring silk. The walls of the pot are relatively thin and slightly porous, so it is recommended to dedicate this pot to cooler temperature teas like senchas.
Please be mindful of caring for this tea pot. Rinse it well after use and never put it in the dishwasher.
This chawan is glazed in a way that separates upon firing, revealing a network of fine cracks in the top of the glaze. The glaze is still smooth and whole, and will not crack further, but the result of this technique is visually stunning.
This Hagi Ware Chawan is so pleasing to handle. The glaze is so smooth, covering the Yamaguchi clay with colors reminiscent of foggy mornings. The triple glaze dip creates a triangle on the base of the bowl, adding another dimension of artistic expression.
Made in Gifu Prefecture, this chawan has a beautiful and classic shino ware look. With earthen-red clay peeking through the thick white glaze, the chawan is as pleasing to handle as it is to view. The sturdy base makes whisking an easy task and the sides are perfect to cup in your hands as you enjoy each sip of fresh matcha.
This nice little pear-shaped clay pot has a beveled and textured exterior and unglazed interior. The outside is freckles with gold dots to match the cups (sold separately). Each pot holds 140ml.
