From the Gyokko kiln, this Tokoname kyusu is perfect for higher grade shinchas and cooler temperature gyokuros. The flat bottom and width allows water to cool faster, accentuating the sweeter umami notes within the teas. This pot is completely hand crafted and has a handmade clay mesh to filter out leaves. During firing, the clay develops colors that fade from speckled grey to soft sandy tones. The pot holds 210ml of tea and is a perfect size for serving 2-3 people in small cups. Tokoname-yaki is renowned as one of the six ancient kilns of Japan and is known to develop a sheen as it becomes seasoned with regular use. It is an absolute pleasure to be able to offer this single pot.
Please be mindful of caring for this tea pot. Rinse it well after use and never put it in the dishwasher.
This chawan is glazed in a way that separates upon firing, revealing a network of fine cracks in the top of the glaze. The glaze is still smooth and whole, and will not crack further, but the result of this technique is visually stunning.
This Hagi Ware Chawan is so pleasing to handle. The glaze is so smooth, covering the Yamaguchi clay with colors reminiscent of foggy mornings. The triple glaze dip creates a triangle on the base of the bowl, adding another dimension of artistic expression.
Made in Gifu Prefecture, this chawan has a beautiful and classic shino ware look. With earthen-red clay peeking through the thick white glaze, the chawan is as pleasing to handle as it is to view. The sturdy base makes whisking an easy task and the sides are perfect to cup in your hands as you enjoy each sip of fresh matcha.
This nice little pear-shaped clay pot has a beveled and textured exterior and unglazed interior. The outside is freckles with gold dots to match the cups (sold separately). Each pot holds 140ml.
